Salon Etiquette: Christmas Present

Ask Judaysia
Dear Judaysia, What should I give my stylist for Christmas? I love how she does my hair. I do not have an appointment until January, could I give it to her then? Thanks, Kristi
Dear Kristi,
The best gift for your stylist is money. Whatever you can afford. The second best is a great bottle of champagne or her favorite liquor if he or she drinks. If you can stop by before Christmas it would be nice. If not right after is fine.

What To Do With Bangs

Slick It
Tired of your bangs in your face? Perhaps you are growing them out. Clip them back with a beautiful barette. Use a gel or mousse to hold your hair in place. Show off your face with beautiful red lips. So hot this season. This is a wonderful holiday look.

Shag It

Shake and Run
Short hair has made a big impact this season. Geometrics are everywhere. It is so refreshing to see a sexy shag. Hair has been cut to stand on it's own. Lots of layers provide ease of movement. This tousled and sexy shag is wash and wear hair.
It will look good on straight hair. Hair that has a little wave will love the freedom it will provide. Play around with the length to suit your face, features and body shape. It can be worn longer or shorter. It would also look good with a high impact colour. Keep it in condition with Voltech Hair Salad.

Layers

Hair How-To
Layers can be styled under or up. They can also be set into waves. Layers are versatile and fun.
To Get The Look: Wash hair with Judaysia VS Volumizing Shampoo. This will nourish and cleanse the scalp and give your hair incredible body. Spray on Judaysia Thic to fatten every strand or any styling product of your choice. Blow dry with a medium round boar bristle brush flipping the ends in an upward motion. I like a candlestick motion it makes the hair look very modern.
When dry spray your hair with a shaper hairspray. I always use Judaysia VS Shaper Hairdresser In A Can.

Hair Colour: Getting It Right

Beautiful Hair
Have a talk with your hairdresser before the colour process.Tell her about your colour history. Let her know what is on your hair. This can interfere with the new colour and it will help your stylist choose the right product. Decide how much time you can dedicate to maintaining your looks. Your stylist should look at your skin tone, and try to understand if you would like a natural or more bolder colour. I always advise clients to bring in pictures. Tear them out of magazines or print them from the web. Bring cuts and colours of hair you love. This will help your stylist design something for you. A good colourist will tell you whether or not the look will suit you. Trust her opinion. Going to a stylist is all about loyality. When you find a hairdresser you like, stick with them. Remember: If you love your hair it will be worth every dollar you spend. Your hair is your most important accessory.

Katie Holmes Haircut

Katie's bob looks darker in colour. It is a nice contrast to the choppy layers.Cut just below the chin line and layered through out gives the bob new life. This is a good haircut for fine hair. Wavy hair can be blown straight or smoothed with a straightening iron.

Cropped Short

Short and Sexy
The feelings of hairdressing today. Geometry combined with softness is on the forefront for the coming year. There is more emphasis on creating styles for the individual. This short cut falls heavily on the eye and cheekbone. The back is very short with an almost shag like feel.Length on the top gives the overall cut softness and sass. Straight hair, fine hair and limp hair could all work well with this cut. Wavy hair could be blown dry and or straightened with a flat iron. Thin hair would love the thickness. Style with Judaysia Thic.Available at www.judaysia.com

Inverted Bob: Jenny McCarthy

Stacked Up
Stacked in all the right places. What's old is new again. The inverted bob is popping up all over Hollywood. Geometrics are stealing the show. The clean lines and platinum colour make Jenny McCarthy a knockout. This haircut works best with straight hair.
It is cut on an iverted u shape at the nape. Everything else is stacked upon it. Hair is longer at the front. Blow dry with a Denman brush. The Denman smoothes and volumizes the hair with one stroke. It also makes hair shine.

Thin Hair

Kate Moss
Fine, thin hair can be so fashionable.A hairstyle for fine hair or thin hair can actually make your hair thicker. Kate Moss's haircut makes her fine hair look thicker. This is the new bob update with the heavy fringe shown in the Chanel Monte Carlo Collection for Fall 07. I love the heavy fringe because it rests at the top of the cheek bone giving a very youthful look to the face. Long layers give more volume and movement to fine hair. When fine, thin hair is cut too short it just seems to die and stick to your head. It needs length to come alive. Volumtechnics haircutting builds body into fine, thin, and limp hair. It gives hair new life.
Volumtechnics makes the hair thicker by building support and weight where the hair needs it most. Any type of hairstyle can be worn as long as it is not too short. Length is needed to build volume. When you have length you can add on a hairpiece creating diffent looks. You can also wear your hair up, or in a pony. I almost always show fine hair on my posts. I am all about making hair thicker with my Volumtechnics Haircutting Technology and my Judaysia Haircare Thickening System. Today's top models and movie stars have fine hair. It is really the most versatile of all the hair types. I love it, and I love cutting, colouring and styling fine and thin hair.

The Kitten

Meow!
With its ultra wearable , sexily disheveled layers, the kitten is reminiscent of Bardot at her peak. Not only is it easy to backcomb for added volume, its inherent Sixties feel taps into the Beatnik trend that's a key inspiration on the catwalk right now.
How to Get The Look:
Volumtechnics haircutting technology was used to cut volume into the models fine hair. After shampooing with Judaysia VS Volumizing Shampoo hair was styled using Judaysia Mousse at the roots. Judaysia Thic was sprayed on and then the volumizing products were combed through to the ends, giving hair all day hold. Hair was blown dry with a large natural boar rounder brush.Large velcro rollers were set in a downward pattern. Judaysia VS Volumizing Shaper Spray was sprayed all over and set with heat from the blow dryer. Rollers were removed. Our models hair was backcombed at the crown and smoothed using a Comare Mark V comb. Hair was styled into place and finished with Judaysia VS Platinum Hair Spray.

Buying A Skinny Flat Iron

Which One Is Best
I have received a few e-mails about buying a skinny flat iron.
A skinny flat iron should have a slim base so it will easily fit in your hand. When you are using the flat iron to wave your hair you want it to go as smooth as possible. I would not buy the most expensive iron. The inexpense irons work just as well. Remember this is a trend. Try different irons and see which one works best for you.

Fall Hair Trend: Making Waves

Wearing Waves
Waves are everywhere this fall. Long and short hair can all have the forties feel. The modern update is shown at left. Waves are easy to do.Todays look is done with a slim flat iron. Any type of hair can be waved. If your hair is fine and hard to hold you can use a mousse to give it staying power. If your hair is thin and limp you can make your hair thicker by using a hair thickner along with the mousse. Waves will make your hair thicker.
How-To: You will need a slim (about an inch or so) flat iron. Wash your hair with Judaysia VS Volumizing shampoo. This will give your hair shine. Towel dry. Apply Judaysia Thic or Mousse. Comb through.Blow dry. Use your slim flat iron. Take small sections. Run iron down the shaft, when you get to the ends make sure the whole end is tucked in. Roll up the hair in the iron working toward the roots. When you get to the top hold it a second and remove the iron. Tucking in the ends prevents fish hooks. Running the iron down the shaft heats up the hair helping it to set. When cool run your fingers thtough it. Spray with Judaysia VS Shaper spray. If you are going to be in humidity or live in one of the humid states try Judaysia VS Platinum Hair Spray. It is a humidity holding spray. Protects the curls so the humidity cannot get in and make them go limp, without being stiff. If you need more help or have a question about your hair leave a comment.

Salon Etiquette: Appointments

Can I Help You?
Most salons book on an appointment basis, although some are walk-in salons. When you call to book an appointment know what time you would like to come in.This will save time for the busy receptionist. Write down your appointment time. Show up on time. If you cannot keep your appointment call the day before and let your hairdresser know. This will give your stylist time to fill the spot. It is rude to call an hour before and say "Do you have anything later?" Or to simply not show up. Your hairdresser's time is just as valuable as yours. What are they suppose to do with the time you booked and did not show up? Some salons charge for the missed appointment. Do not show up an hour late with an attitude. Have some class and pay your stylist for the missed appointment. And while we are on the subject of ettiquette, pay with cash. Most hairdressers do not have the resources to back up your check at the bank. A check is no more than an IOU. Your hairdresser did not make you run to the bank to get your hair cut and then wait a few days for it to clear before they cut your hair.Be sure to show up with cash to pay. Don't say " I don't have any money, I will get it to you." In the event you have to use your charge card leave extra to cover the fee. Finally, always leave a tip.

Styling Bob Haircuts

Fall 07 Wearing The Bob
If you have fine, limp hair, consider a bob.Your hair will have shape. There are so many variations on the bob, you can easily find one for you. Classic, easy to maintain, the bob looks great with accessories. Shown here with a headband at right. The look is so today. It can be worn with a sweater and some jeans. This is a choppy bob.Styling this look can be fun. You could wear this without a bang as well. The cut could all be the same lenght. For a smooth finish you could set this with jumbo velcro rollers. The crown could be backcombed.
The bob at left is The American Look that is so now. This version has some graduation at the back. It's a knockout with the sunglasses. It too can be worn with or without a fringe. The front could be a little longer than the back giving it a more geometric feel. This looks best with a hair colour that has some punch.

Haircolour Breakage

Ask Judaysia
Dear Judaysia; I have long, fine, thin, blonde hair. I have a lot of grey on top now. I had my hair hilighted and it broke off. I cannot seem to find a hairdresser or good advice about coloring my hair that will not damage it. I need advice and something to repair the damage. I want to keep my hair long.
Thank you, Kerrie
Dear Kerrie, If you are in the Los Angeles area you could come to my salon. I would recommend an all over colour for you, A single process. With the grey it will look hilighted. Please do not let your hairdresser put you under the hair dryer with any type of colour. This will almost always damage your hair.Your hair can look very sexy like the picture at the right. To repair the damage I always use Voltech Hair Salad. It is undoubtedly The Holy Grail of hair repair. Also a good cut to give it volume. I would also look for a top hairdresser in the biggest city near you. You will pay more but it will be worth every penny.I hope this helps.

Hair Colour: Roots

Status Shades
The first rule is never to look as though you are trying. Gorgeous hair never looks as if it has been dyed. Perfect colour translates to wisp thin highlights that don't start close to the scalp. A weaving of several intensities of colour so no one streak is obvious. The result is natural looking colour and low maintenance. New growth doesn't require monthly visits to the salon. Keeping colour within a couple of shades lighter or darker than your own keep the roots from showing.Honey brown hair is ideal for sunny highlights that can start half an inch from the roots. Most of the lightening is concentrated from the middle of the shaft down.
This is an ideal coloring technique for mom's to be, busy mom's and working girls.

Thicker Hair

Volume! Volume! Volume!
Free Samples
Yes you can have thicker hair. These easy steps will show you how.The most important thing is a good haircut. One that builds body and volume into fine, thin hair. A good cut has a firm foundation. Something to build on. Cutting hair is like making a sculpture. The hair is your medium. Our models hair is cut into a Savage Haircut with Volumtechnics. All she has to do is put a little product in her hair, blow dry it and go.
The next step is product. You can get products that make your hair thicker. By increasing the diameter of the hair you increase the volume.
Start with shampoo. It is important to use a shampoo that cleans the hair and leaves it full and shiny. Judaysia VS Volumizing Shampoo is made in small batches with natural ingredients. It is a great everyday shampoo. It cleans, shines and protects the hair. You want all the product to wash out of your hair. This prevents build up. You also want your scalp to be healthy. Some shampoos are so harsh and drying they actually break the hair off. Shampoo made with botanical ingredients are a better choice. They do not have to be all natural because sometimes its not the wise choice. Too much protein can make the scalp flake. The right blend makes all the difference.
Thickening products are best used after towel drying the hair before styling. Judaysia Thic is the best product for thickening the hair. The natural botanical formula increases the diameter of the hair making it thicker and fuller. Thic never builds up.It can be used everyday. Thic also gives your hair more volume and body while holding your set. I use it all the time in the salon. It is the one product I cannot live without. If you have a good cut and the right product all the work is done for you. You just need to do a little finishing.
For a limited time I am offering free samples of Judaysia VS Volumizing Shampoo and Judaysia Thic. To receive them send 2.00 to cover the packing and post to;
Judaysia P.O. Box 1655 Agoura Hills Ca. 91376. You will receive a half ounce bottle of shampoo and a .07 ounce bottle of Thic . Include your address.

Red Alert: Lips

Matte Red
Lady like lipstick returns this season. Red lips go with every hair colour.
To Get The Look:
For a perfectly polished pout trace a lip pencil along the line of the lips. I like Nars Red Square pencil. Do not go over the lip line, even if you have small lips. Next use a lip brush to apply dense matte colour, before gently pushing it into the lips with your fingertips for a long lasting look. Try Nars Heat Wave. Matte lips are in. Gloss is out. Try a nail polish in a matching shade.

Fall 07 Choppy Bob

Get The Chop
Fall into the chop. Choppy bob with a heavy fringe.
The season's new look. Hair has been cut with alot of heavy layers. Keep the classic look modern with super straight locks and a fringe that skims the brow.
